On Tues, May 5, the following students were inducted into the Alpha Omicron Chapter of Delta Epsilon Phi, the German National Honor Society: Andrew Desmond, Connor Hoffmann, Matthew Gauch, and Anthony Augliera! Congratulations to our swimming Cougars on their National Rankings! We had two Automatic All American swims at States this year. The Girls 200 Medley Relay (Erin Gaeckle, Christen McDonough, Dana Pruitt, Mary Kate Hetzel) and the Girls 100 Breaststroke (Christen McDonough). Currently the Relay is ranked 45th in the country and Christen is ranked 30th. Absolutely Awesome Cougars!

Congratulations to Catherine Ellis for being selected to the First Team and Cait Baker for the Second Team and Bridget Hogan for being named Alternate to play on the US Lacrosse Lower Atlantic Regional National Team. They will play in the showcase US Lacrosse National Tournament May 23rd and 24th in Baltimore, MD. It is the largest women's lacrosse event in the nation ending with the NCAA Division I Women’s Championship game in Johnny Unitas Stadium on the campus of Towson University.

Freshman, Tuck Kennedy was a 7th place medalist for Mens Foil in the North American Cup DVIII Fencing Championship. Tuck competed against 131 foil fencers from across the United States this past weekend in Atlanta and earned his D09 rating. Way to go Tuck!
Congratulations to Junior basketball forward, John Hatton who was named Charlotte Observer's Player of the Week on March 1, 2009. Hatton grabbed a rebound and was fouled at Asheville Erwin with less than 3 seconds left. His free throw sent CCHS to its first regional berth in 20 years.

Photography Students: Natalia Sztandarowski - SILVER, Nicole Hyczewski - SILVER, Michael Kuhn - HONORABLE MENTION. CCHS students competed in the Mid-Carolina Region Art Competition, which includes all Charlotte Mecklenburg schools, all Charlotte private schools, along with public and private schools from eight surrounding counties. There were approximately 1500 pieces entered. Judges selected 575 pieces to receive Gold Key, Silver Key, and Honorable Mention Awards. Gold Key art will be exhibited in the galleries at Spirit Square, Feb 5th - April 1. Silver Key 2-D art will be exhibited at the Mint Museum of Art on Randolph Road. Silver Key 3-D art will be exhibited at the Mint Museum of Craft&Design on Tryon St. The exhibits at the Mints will open on Feb. 15th. Awesome Cougars!!

Congratulations to Senior Johnny O'Boyle for being named The Charlotte Observers: "High School Player of The Week" on November 23rd. Johnny caught 3 touchdown passes, ran for a score and intercepted 2 passes in a 34-13 victory against Clyde Erwin in the second round of the NC3AA playoffs. He had more then 150 total yards in offense. Way to go Johnny!!

Congratulations to Senior Johnny O'Boyle, the WCNC Channel 36 Athlete of the Week for October 17th. Johnny had 2 receptions of 73 & 75 yards which resulted in TDs, an interception,and collecting 65 yards in punt returns. Go Cougars!!
Junior Melissa Phillips, Shelton Leadership Scholar, was invited to speak at the 2008 US Airways Freedom Breakfast on November 7th. Melissa presented a speech to more the 650 guests in attendance. She spoke about her experiences at the Shelton Leadership Challenge this past summer, and the 5 key leadership practices. The Carolina's Freedom Foundation was founded by POW and retired air Force Col. Quincy Collins to promote patriotism. The Foundation has nine initiatives, including those to educate young people and the community on the importance of citizenship while continuing to honor those who serve in both the military and other field of community service. Congratulations to Christen McDonough who was named to USA Swimming’s 2007-2008 Scholastic All American Team. Criteria for selection to the Scholastic All America team was more stringent this year with qualifiers having to maintain a 3.5 unweighted GPA, as well as participating in an individual event that met the Junior National Bonus Time Standard. Team members will be receiving certificates and awards from USA Swimming this fall. Way to go Christen!!
